Lidén's research focuses on the local political arena, where he conducts comparative examinations of governance and policy output. His areas of particular coverage include:
• Digitalization of political processes at the local level
• Local migration policy
• Local democratic processes
• Local welfare policy
Additionally, Lidén has a keen interest in research methods related to mixed methods approaches
